Project Intro: Castle Pines: Feasibility Study

When many of us think of architecture, we often think of napkin sketches and beautiful hand rendering (I’m kidding, does anybody do hand rendering anymore… WE DO!! #MAST); BUT, surprise, surprise, Architecture isn’t always about the “fun stuff”.  Our new project in Colorado is a good example of work that needs to be done before getting to the design. Our main Hayne Architect, Mr. Robbin Hayne himself, took a quick day trip out to Colorado to check out and analyze a potential site for a commercial project or what we call a Feasibility Study. This study helps us understand the site, see what challenges might come from it and if those challenges are able to be worked through or if they are worth working through (#brasstax #itsallabouththebenjamins). Take a look below at some snapshots from his site visit and some things to look for.

1- Access.  Is there already an existing path to the site? Is it paved, a dirt road, need to be expanded or demoed?

2- Existing Conditions. What is currently there at the site? Are those findings going to challenge or affect any part of the design process?

3- Existing Land Condition. What landscape is at the site? Look at the topography and slopes of the site.

4- Surroundings. What is happening around the site? Are there neighboring buildings that need to be considered or will be affected by the project?

We know how exciting it is to get to the design of a project, but sometimes you gotta fly out, hike up a hill and do a feasibility study!
